Hamtramck Firefighters, Local 750 received confirmation today that the City of Hamtramck will layoff twelve (12) firefighters, 44% of the fire suppression division, effective Monday, October 1, 2012 at 12:01pm. The remaining members of the Local are committed to continuing to maintain quality fire services to the residents of Hamtramck during this challenging time. However, with overtime costs to the City and the additional physical and mental stress these layoffs will put on the remaining firefighters, it will not be long before our health and safety and that of the public will be affected by this drastic decision on the part of the City administration.
